Flights from United Kingdom and from Turkey to Greece are suspended!

New ministerial decree imposes temporary restriction on any ties with Turkey and United Kingdom to restrict the dispersal of corona virus (COVID-19)

All passenger flights from United Kingdom and Turkey are being suspended on the basis of a joint ministerial decision published in the Greek Government Gazette. The JMB (Joint Ministerial Decision) states that this measure taken in the context of protecting public health from further dispersal of the virus COVID19 will apply from the early hours of Monday 23 March to 15 April 2020. As stated in the relevant joint ministerial decision, the measure concerns the "temporary restriction of the landing of any aircraft originating in Turkey, and also any maritime, rail and road connections to that country, as well as the prohibition to enter the Greek Territory for persons coming from Turkey ". The reasons caused above decision are for protecting public health from the further spread of the COVID-19 corona virus in the Greek Territory for the period from 23.3.2020 at 06:00 to 15.4.2020 at 15:00, according to the recommendation of the National Public Health Protection Committee against COVID virus-19 dated 22.3.2020 . "

Above prohibition excludes:

  • a) Greek citizens, holders of residence permits, as well as persons having their principal residence or habitual residence in Greece
  • b) The transit of trucks for the carriage of goods (cargo)
  • c) The carriage of goods by ship

In addition, for preventive reasons for the protection of Public Health, from the morning of March 23th until April 15th will apply also 'temporary restrictions for landing of aircrafts from the United Kingdom'!
