SKOPELOS-A green paradise with emerald beaches and scented pine trees reaching the sea....

Greece » Skopelos

Azure beaches of ecstatic beauty, picturesque bays with enormous fragrant pine trees reaching the sea, white houses with traditional Pelion architecture, narrow streets like painted, old traditional churches, chapels and monasteries and a pure island atmosphere are all essential elements of the image of this, the greenest island in Aegean. Skopelos is one of the islands of the Northern Sporades, the second island in the series after Skiathos. It has an area of about 96 square kilometers, a perimeter of 67 kilometers and is full of dense forests covering almost 80% of its land. If on your vacation, relaxation, natural beauty and local character are your first choices, then Skopelos is your ideal destination. It is the island that promises to offer you a vacation that you will always remember....In Skopelos art is everywhere: in pottery and other ceramic ornaments, in painted dishes, in embroidery, in miniatures of boats, in the architecture of its mansions.. Its hidden beaches await you to discover them with boats, sailing boats, private yachts or walking through picturesque paths. The beaches of Skopelos Island are ideal to enjoy a long day under the sun. Whichever beach you may opt for, the crystal clear waters and the green surroundings will take your breath away!  On the northern and eastern shores of Skopelos the coasts are rocky, while in the south and west the slopes create the splendid beaches of the island, some with fine sand and some with pebbles. On the southern side are the most nice and popular beaches: Stafylos, Velanio, Agnontas, Limnonari, Glysteri, Panormos, Linarakia, Adrines, Milia, Kastani, Hovolo, Elios, Armenopetra and many others, all with crystal  waters and within the lush greenery of the pine forest.

The Town of Skopelos (Hóra), on the northern coast, is the capital of the island. Hóra nestles comfortably on a hill and sprawls around a castle. The medieval castle with its sweeping views of the Aegean, the stone houses with picture-perfect courtyards full of colorful flowers, the narrow paved streets, the whitewashed stairs and a number of Byzantine churches, the town encapsulates the essence of a typical Greek island settlement. In both Hóra and the beaches you will find beautiful ouzeri, cafes and bars, fish taverns with fresh fish and seafood and restaurants with delicious meals where you can enjoy the traditional tastes and specialties of the island's cuisine. Don’t leave Skopelos without tasting the traditional cheese pie, a mouth watering delicacy made of crispy pastry in a spiral shape and local goat cheese, and also the renowned prunes (dried or sweet). The island enjoyed international acclaim when Hollywood producers chose it to shoot in 2007 the famous movie “Mamma Mia”, establishing the island as a holiday destination for tourists from all over the world. Between the turquoise-blue water and vibrant greenery, every corner of the island looks movie-worthy. It is sure that in Skopelos you will shoot your own movie of the most wonderful holidays that will have something more than…a happy end!
